BRONTE baths

Sporting the moniker of "Sydney's most photographed ocean pool", Bronte Baths is without doubt my favourite ocean pool in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. I can see, from personal experience, why it is so popular with photographers. Take a canvas of surf, sand and sky, paint in some accents of sandstone, foliage, timber and steel and you have the makings of a masterpiece.

Add to the palette a multitude of leading lines and other compositional elements like the imperfect curve of the pool wall, the racing stripes or the steps to the grotto below and it quickly shapes up as photographic nirvana. Oh and did I mention the waterfall that cascades down the outside of the pool's perimeter, or the surfers launching from the pool edge into the crashing waves beyond?

Bronte Baths is unlike many of it's coastal neighbours in terms of photography. And I believe there is one single reason for this. This pool can be photographed with ease from nearly every angle and orientation imaginable. Above, below, beside, at eye level, low to the waterline, from afar. North, South, East and West. And what's more, it is very photogenic from many of these vantage points.

And then of course, there's the real reason this place exists. The swimming. Bronte is my kind of ocean pool for a swim. The waters cold and clear, there's plenty of room to drop your towel, and the facilities nearby are great. Whether busting out some laps or just leaning on the pool edge and watching the waves roll in, Bronte Baths really is as pretty as a picture. Coffee anyone?
